“LOVE TO FIGHT”

“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.” Psalm 42:11

It only takes a moment for the feeling of hopelessness to take hold of my heart. A harsh word from my husband, that disapproving look or worse, the silence.

It hits in waves, tears, frustration, and anger when I am crying out to God, will this ever change? Maybe you too find yourself wondering if God sees you, and if your hope is all in vain.

Feeling the weight of life and this broken marriage too heavy—when yours prayers seem unanswered, dreams are delayed, or the silence of God feels louder than His promises. In those moments, hopelessness whispers that things will never change, that you’re forgotten, or that your story for your marriage and life will never happen.

But let us remember David, a man after God’s own heart. He experienced hopelessness too. In Psalm 42, he wrestles with despair, but reminds us of a deeper truth: even in despair, we can speak to our own soul. We can remind ourselves that God is still worthy of our hope, even when we can’t see the path ahead. “I will yet praise Him”—that little word “yet” is powerful. It means that praise is not dependent on how we feel, but on who God is!

Hope in God isn’t wishful thinking. Your current sorrow is not the end of your story. The God who raised Jesus from the dead is the same God who can resurrect hope in you. He sees the tears, the fatigue, the ache—and He promises that He is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). You may feel stuck, but God is still moving.

Truths to Hold Onto:

God never forgets you. “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast? Though she may forget, I will not forget you” (Isaiah 49:15)

He is working even when you can’t see it. “We live by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Your story is not over. “The righteous person may fall seven times, but he rises again.” (Proverbs 24:16)

Prayer:

Lord, I confess that my heart feels heavy. Hope has faded but today, I choose to trust you. Even when I don’t see the way forward, I know You are with me. Restore my hope, Lord – not in perfect circumstances, but in Your perfect presence. Remind me of who You are and help me speak truth over my soul. Thank you for always being faithful, even when I doubt and lose hope.

In Jesus Mighty name, Amen
